EOLDN makes a splash at Texas election conference

January 2025

CEIR’s Texas Outreach & Engagement Specialist Sarah Hilderbrand stands with TACEO Executive Director Chris McGinn at this month’s TACEO Mid-Winter Conference

EOLDN in Texas

Election officials from across Texas gathered together in South Padre Island to celebrate the successful administration of the 2024 general election and to tackle the next set of challenges. EOLDN was honored to join them at the Texas Association of County Election Officials (TACEO) Mid-Winter Conference. We forged new connections who affirmed the continued need for our mission: pairing harassed election officials with pro bono attorneys.

At TACEO, we presented our legal service during the opening session to over 250 attendees from counties large and small. We also had the opportunity to chat one-on-one with these election officials at our busy table, handing out dozens of flyers for EOLDN’s services and research analysis from The Center for Election Innovation & Research (CEIR).

At our booth and in session, many election officials shared their insight on how the landscape of election administration in Texas may evolve in the coming years. These conversations and their concerns will be crucial in informing our work in the state going forward. EOLDN looks forward to continuing, and growing, our support of Texas election officials and TACEO.

New ‘Texas in Context’ Research

For the TACEO conference and our broader work in Texas, CEIR developed three explainers on Texas elections, breaking down voter registration systems and processesballots and election administration, and voting before Election Day throughout the state.

Invite EOLDN to present

EOLDN is committed to attending conferences and sharing insights on threats and harassment of election workers, the resources and support we offer for election workers, and the role of attorneys in the defense of democracy.

What's trending for election administration in 2025

Every January, electionline puts out its list of “What’s in & out for election administration” in the New Year. Here are a couple of our favorites:

Out: Relitigating 2024
In: Relitigating 2020

Out: Blaming local election officials in another state for influencing the outcome of the election
In: Celebrating the speed with which other states processed millions of ballots and the accuracy of those fast election results

What's happening at CEIR

Four years later, why the 2024 election certification matters

Congressional certification of the 2024 election went smoothly with no objections, but the events of January 6, 2021, which CEIR’s David Becker described as “extremely unusual and very, very damaging to the soul of America,” are still fresh in the minds of many Americans.

What is EOLDN?

EOLDN matches experienced pro bono attorneys with election officials who have been harassed and intimidated on the job or who fear targeting or retaliation simply for doing their jobs.

Attorneys, Join Our Network of Lawyers

Please forward this message to attorney contacts, so EOLDN is prepared for 2025 and beyond. We need all types of attorneys, as election officials can experience a wide variety of legal issues stemming from their duties, and many simply need general guidance. Learn about joining the network as a pro bono attorney, or as a law firm, here
