EOLDN continues to serve growing need on its fifth anniversary
In the summer of 2021, three election experts — David Becker, Ben Ginsberg (R), and Bob Bauer (D) — recognized the intense and unprecedented harassment election officials were facing and responded by creating the Election Official Legal Defense Network.
This September marks five years since the launch of EOLDN, but this occasion does not warrant celebration. While we are incredibly proud of our support of election officials over the years, we are disheartened by the continued abuse and harassment these public servants endure. Since 2021, the need for legal support for election officials has only grown, and we have received more requests in the past year than any other. We are moved by the trust that election officials place in us as they share the most painful details of their experiences or refer their colleagues and friends.
Ultimately, we hope that the need for this project will disappear. Until then, EOLDN will continue to have election officials’ backs. We are more prepared and determined than ever.
Without the help of our network of attorneys and law firms throughout the country who have signed up to help threatened election workers, we could not provide the support that we do. We also want to recognize the election professionals who serve on the EOLDN Advisory Board and the many steadfast organizations — such as We the Action, A More Perfect Union, and the American Bar Association — that have been such excellent partners in this work. Thank you.
